Wedding bells are ringing for Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist!
The YSL rapper surprised fans by proposing to his girlfriend and frequent collaborator during his Hometown Hero benefit concert at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on Tuesday, December 16.
Videos from the emotional moment show Thug pausing his performance and dropping to one knee to pop the question after sharing the stage with Mariah. As the words “Will You Marry Me?” lit up the massive screen behind them, he asked, “What do you say, man?”
Mariah enthusiastically accepted, telling him to “put it on” as she gestured for the dazzling diamond ring. Turning to the cheering crowd moments later, she joyfully announced, “I guess we’re getting married!” — sending the arena into a frenzy of screams and applause.
Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist began dating in 2021 and have frequently highlighted their artistic connection through several collaborations. The engaged couple even portrayed a bride and groom in the music video for “Walked In.”
Throughout Thug’s lengthy YSL RICO trial, which kept him incarcerated for more than two years, Mariah remained steadfastly by his side. Reflecting on that difficult period, she spoke candidly during a 2023 interview with The Breakfast Club.
“It almost felt like jail strengthened our relationship,” she shared. “I was willing to wait because I truly believe he’s the one. At first, he told me he didn’t know how long everything would take and that I could walk away if I wanted. But I told him I wasn’t going anywhere. He’s the one.”
Despite their deep bond, the couple’s relationship hasn’t been without turbulence since Thug’s release from jail in October 2024.
Last year, the two appeared to briefly split after a leaked jail call surfaced in which the rapper admitted to contacting “at least 10 other girls” while incarcerated. The revelation sparked backlash, prompting Thug to issue a public apology to Mariah on social media.
“Sorry to my baby for all this nonsense on the internet,” he wrote. “I love you, and forget everyone else — we know what’s real between us.”
