Just one week after the world said goodbye to heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, his son Jack Osbourne opened up about the immense sorrow and cherished memories he carries in a deeply emotional Instagram post.
“I’m overwhelmed with grief,” Jack began, admitting that he had hesitated to speak publicly about his father’s passing. “My heart has hurt too much,” wrote the 39-year-old son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. “I’m gonna keep this short because he certainly hated long rambling speeches.”
Jack reflected on the immense privilege of being part of Ozzy’s inner circle—not as a rock icon, but simply as a dad. “He was so many things to so many people, but I was so lucky and blessed to be part of a very small group that got to call him ‘Dad.’”
Accompanying his heartfelt message was a poignant video montage of moments shared with his father over the years. From a sweet childhood visit to The Howard Stern Show in 1997—where a young Jack gushed that having Ozzy as a dad was “very cool”—to playful family antics, tour memories, and tender moments, the montage captures the soul of their unique bond. Set to Ozzy’s sentimental 1983 ballad “So Tired” from the Bark at the Moon album, the tribute added an extra layer of emotion with lyrics like:
“Time has come to say goodbye / I know it’s gonna make you cry / But you belong to another, my love / And half a love that just ain’t enough…”
Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at age 76 following a cardiac arrest, with coronary artery disease contributing to the tragic loss. In his tribute, Jack reflected on the sheer magnitude of time he had with his father. “I got 14,501 days with that man and I know that is such a blessing,” he wrote.
Jack concluded his message with a powerful quote from the late Hunter S. Thompson, perfectly summing up Ozzy’s wild and full-throttle approach to life:
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body… but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a ride!’”
The touching video closed with snapshots of Ozzy joyfully surrounded by his children and grandchildren and even teaching a young Jack how to bow and say goodnight after a show. One moment featured footage from Ozzy’s last-ever live performance—the July 5 Back to the Beginning concert in his hometown of Birmingham, England—where the Osbourne family was present to celebrate his final bow.
Jack didn’t shy away from honoring his dad’s trademark irreverence either, including a photo of a cheeky flower arrangement from the private funeral that boldly spelled out: “Ozzy F–king Osbourne.”
“That was my dad. He lived, and he lived his life fully,” Jack wrote in closing. “I love you, dad.”
Jack’s deeply personal farewell came just days after his sister, Kelly Osbourne, also paid tribute to their late father. “I’ve sat down to write this a hundred times and still don’t know if the words will ever feel like enough,” Kelly wrote in her own post. “But from the bottom of my heart, thank you. The love, support, and beautiful messages I’ve received from so many of you have truly helped carry me through the hardest moment of my life.”
She added, “I will not be OK for a while — but knowing my family are not alone in our pain makes a difference. I’m holding on tight to the love, the light, and the legacy left behind.”
Through these moving tributes, it’s clear that Jack Osbourne’s tearful goodbye to dad Ozzy Osbourne: ‘I’m overwhelmed with grief’ speaks not only to the deep love within the Osbourne family, but also to the lasting legacy of a man who touched the world with music, madness, and heart.
