Neil Young Calls Out Tim Cook, Verizon & T-Mobile for Allegedly Backing ‘Fascist Trump Regime’

Neil Young has made it clear he wants no part in what he describes as a “fascist Trump regime” — or in supporting companies he believes are helping to bankroll it. In a passionate new statement, the legendary rocker didn’t just criticize politics; he put major corporations directly in his crosshairs.

On Thursday (Jan. 29), Young published a fiery essay on his Neil Young Archives website, openly calling out Verizon, T-Mobile and Apple for what he alleges is their financial backing of President Donald Trump and his administration. The post, which quickly spread online, underscores Young’s long-standing stance as both a musician and an outspoken political activist.

Reflecting on his own consumer choices, Young zeroed in on his phone service as a starting point. He explained that while he still uses an old flip phone, it’s the monthly payments — not the device itself — that trouble him. He openly considered cutting ties with Verizon, arguing that his service fees indirectly contribute to causes he strongly opposes.

He then turned his attention to alternatives, briefly weighing T-Mobile as an option before expressing frustration over reports of donations linked to Trump-owned properties. Questioning where that money ultimately ends up, Young concluded that T-Mobile was also off his list.

While corporate donations raised red flags for the singer, the situation in Minnesota has fueled his anger even further. Young referenced recent violence involving ICE agents in Minneapolis, where two American citizens — Renée Good and Alex Pretti — were fatally shot earlier this month. For Young, these events marked a breaking point.

Declaring his intention to sever financial ties wherever possible, he wrote that continuing to support companies connected to such actions was simply unacceptable to him. In his view, spending money with these corporations amounts to indirect participation in what he believes are deeply unjust outcomes.

Young’s criticism didn’t stop with telecom giants. He also aimed pointed remarks at Apple CEO Tim Cook, accusing him of publicly aligning with the Trump administration. Young went so far as to threaten legal action if future Apple software upgrades render his existing equipment unusable, stating that he would halt all upgrades immediately.

Throughout the essay, Young urged fans and readers to think critically about where their money goes and how everyday purchases may support political agendas without consumers realizing it. As he continues to reassess his personal and professional relationships, even longtime partners are not immune. He acknowledged Warner Music Group — which currently distributes his catalog — as a “great record company,” but hinted that he is still evaluating his association with the label.

Signing off, Young promised to keep supporters informed as he navigates these decisions, signaling that more changes could be ahead.

At the time of publication, representatives for Verizon, T-Mobile, Apple and Warner Music Group had not responded to requests for comment.
